We are always looking for new and engaging ways to teach our students how to be responsible world citizens. Harmony Week (previously known as Harmony Day) is about celebrating cultural diversity, tolerance, and inclusiveness in Australia.
It isn’t surprising that Harmony Week is becoming a big deal in schools all across the country. Over the years, we have taught many different lessons about harmony to celebrate this event, but we may have found our all-time FAVOURITE.

The purpose of this activity is for students to reflect on Harmony Week and how they can contribute to a peaceful and happy Australia, where diversity and multiculturalism are respected and celebrated.
The main message of Harmony Week is, everyone belongs, and this activity not only introduces this main idea to students but it also creates a beautiful display to have up in your classroom as a consistent reminder.
“A very different and engaging way to represent harmony day. They looked great, all hanging up too!” Sarah J
Why we love this resource:
It celebrates the cultural diversity and inclusiveness of every Australian.
It can be completed as a series of short lessons, supported by the literature.
It is suitable for a range of age groups.
It asks students to consider how they can actively make a difference.
They are the perfect way to invite conversation about the different cultures that make up your classroom.
It requires the higher-order thinking skill of reflection.
It is simple to prepare but very effective when displayed (see construction instructions below).
It could double as an assembly item or display in a school common area.
Construction is simple and students can complete it independently.
But it isn’t just us who enjoy these 3D Harmony Hearts. Check out what other teachers are saying.
